Weddings & Memorial Services
Our sanctuary, which has a classic New England style, seats about 180 people comfortably. The sanctuary has a classic pipe organ and a grand piano; arrangements can be made for other musical instruments to be played during the event. Guests can gather in the "Old Sloop Room" which looks out onto the Lawson Tower and gardens, and food can be prepared in our kitchen. Arrangements can also be made for small ceremonies to be held outside in our Memorial Garden.
Funerals and Memorial Services
First Parish is ready to meet your needs at a time of loss and grief. Working with local funeral directors, our church is available for a funeral or memorial service. A service can also be prearranged in consultation with the Minister.
Wedding Celebrations
At First Parish, weddings are in the Unitarian Universalist tradition of being open and affirming to all. Wedding celebrations are celebrations for the brides and grooms as well as family and friends. In addition to weddings of Unitarian Universalists, we also perform weddings of people of other faiths and interfaith weddings, as well as same-sex weddings. Our minister, the Rev. Pamela Barz, will work with the couple to make a meaningful and joyous service. If you desire to have someone other than Rev. Barz perform the service at First Parish, the officiant must be ordained clergy. They also must consult with Rev. Barz before the wedding.
Couples are encouraged and expected to meet at least three times with Rev. Barz so that they may become acquainted and discuss their upcoming marriage as well as the details of the service itself. The couple will receive a booklet of information and resources on weddings at First Parish, including vows, readings and other useful information. Couples are encouraged to write their own vows in consultation with the minister.

Couples who are interested in having their wedding at First Parish in Scituate are asked to call with a date in mind. Information about the First Parish wedding policy and the current fees will be sent to the couple. That date will be conditionally reserved until a non-refundable deposit of half the rental fee is received in the church office at which time the reservation will become permanent. Couples are also encouraged to visit the church for our Sunday worship or by arrangement through the church office.
Unitarian Universalism is proud to perform commitment ceremonies and marriages for couples regardless of gender, and has publicly supported this practice since 1984.
